Getting Your Home Ready for Your New Car

Bringing home a new car is exciting, whether it is a brand-new model, a carefully chosen used vehicle, or something you have spent months searching for. Before it arrives, however, it is worth making sure your home is ready for it. A little preparation and home improvement can make delivery day easier and help you protect your new purchase from the moment it arrives.

From clearing the garage to thinking about security and everyday maintenance, there are several simple jobs worth tackling before your new car takes its place at home.

• Clear Out the Garage

If your new car will be kept in a garage, start by giving the space a thorough clear-out. Garages have a habit of gradually becoming storage rooms, with boxes, bicycles, garden equipment and tools taking up valuable space. Start by removing anything that could obstruct the vehicle and check that you have enough room to comfortably open the doors once it is parked. It is also sensible to move sharp tools, unstable shelving or heavy objects that could potentially fall and damage the car.

Take the opportunity to check your garage lighting too. Good lighting makes parking easier and can be particularly useful when checking the vehicle or carrying out basic maintenance.

• Make Room for Delivery Day

It is easy to concentrate on where the car will eventually be parked and forget about how it is going to reach your property. Vehicle carriers can be considerably larger than ordinary delivery vans, so residential access deserves some thought beforehand.

If you are arranging delivery through Albuquerque car transporters, consider whether there is enough space for the carrier to safely approach, stop and unload the vehicle. Narrow roads, parked cars, low branches, tight corners and gated communities can all create difficulties. When direct access is impractical, arranging to meet the transporter at a nearby wide road or spacious car park can make the handover much simpler.

Of course, if they can get to you, you must ensure you clear your driveway of other vehicles, bins, and unnecessary obstacles before the scheduled arrival. This means your new car can be moved into its parking space without additional manoeuvring once it has been unloaded.

• Review Your Home Security

A new vehicle is also a good reason to review security around your driveway or garage. Motion-activated exterior lighting can improve visibility, while security cameras or a video doorbell can provide additional coverage around parking areas. Check that garage doors, gates, and locks are operating properly. If you use a smart home security system, you may also want to adjust camera positions or detection zones so that the area around your vehicle is adequately covered.

• Prepare for an Electric Vehicle

If your new car is electric, home preparation may require a little more planning. Having a suitable home charging point installed before the vehicle arrives can make ownership considerably more convenient. Think carefully about charger placement and cable length. Ideally, you should be able to connect the vehicle without stretching a cable across a walkway or creating a trip hazard.

• Create Space for Car Essentials

Finally, designate somewhere for the equipment you will regularly use with the car. Cleaning products, tire inflators, charging cables, screen wash and other essentials are much easier to find when they have a dedicated storage area.

Preparing your home ahead of time means you can enjoy your new vehicle from day one rather than immediately worrying about parking, storage or access. With the practical details handled beforehand, delivery day can be focused on what really matters: getting acquainted with your new car.
